November 1-15
As winter approaches in many areas of the land, your wildflowers have ceased or will soon cease blooming and start setting seed. Although it looks as if things are dead and gone, this time is critical in the development and dispersment of seed for the new season about to begin.
After the blooms have gone, the plant is still functioning even though it looks about as dead as dead can be. Seeds that were begun a few months previously are in the final stages of maturity. This happens differently with each variety of wildflower you have growing, but it happens! Allow it to complete it’s cycle and you will have flowers in the spring from these plants that proved so faithful this past season.
Once the seed is mature, you can cut back the dead stalks to make things look a little more manicured, but wait till it matures to do this if you want your wildflowers to return. more »
